From April 16 to 27, 2024, members and friends of the Middle Atlantic Lieutenancy of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem embarked on a profound 12-day pilgrimage, retracing the missionary journeys of Saint Paul across Greece and the Greek Isles. This spiritual and historical journey offered pilgrims the opportunity to deepen their faith while exploring the roots of Christianity.

The pilgrimage was led by the esteemed Rev. Michael Burbeck, KHS, who provided spiritual direction throughout the journey. His reflections and liturgies guided pilgrims through moments of prayer, contemplation, and connection to the legacy of Saint Paul. The pilgrimage was also undertaken under the leadership of H.E. Valencia Yvonne Camp, DGCHS, Lieutenant of the Middle Atlantic Lieutenancy, whose presence underscored the Order’s commitment to spiritual growth and learning.

While a complete public itinerary was not disclosed, the pilgrimage included visits to several key cities and sites tied to the ministry of Saint Paul. Pilgrims journeyed through places such as:

• Athens – Standing before the Areopagus, where Paul once preached to the Athenians, pilgrims reflected on his call to proclaim the Gospel boldly.
• Corinth – Exploring the ruins of the city where Paul founded a Christian community and later addressed them in his epistles.
• Thessaloniki – Visiting the city where Paul preached in the synagogue and encountered both converts and resistance.

Alongside these destinations, the group visited early Christian communities, historic churches, and cultural landmarks that bore witness to the spread of the early Church.

The pilgrimage was more than a tour of sacred sites. It was a journey of personal transformation. Pilgrims experienced daily Mass, shared moments of prayer, and engaged in fellowship, all while walking the same ground Saint Paul once traveled. Each site visited became a living scripture lesson, bringing the New Testament to life in powerful and personal ways.

As the group returned home, they brought with them not just memories of stunning landscapes and ancient ruins, but a renewed sense of mission, much like Saint Paul himself—ready to proclaim their faith with greater conviction and love.
