In September 2022, members of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem’s Middle Atlantic Lieutenancy embarked on a profound pilgrimage to witness the renowned Oberammergau Passion Play in Bavaria, Germany. This decennial event, deeply rooted in history and faith, provided pilgrims with a unique opportunity to reflect on the Passion of Christ in a setting steeped in tradition.

The Oberammergau Passion Play has been performed since 1634, originating from a vow made by the villagers of Oberammergau during a devastating plague. They promised to reenact the Passion of Christ every ten years if their village was spared further deaths. Honoring this pledge, the play has become a symbol of faith and perseverance, drawing audiences worldwide.

Participating in the Oberammergau Passion Play pilgrimage allowed members of the EOHSJ Middle Atlantic Lieutenancy to deepen their faith and renew their dedication to the Order’s mission. Such experiences reinforce the importance of spiritual growth and solidarity among members.
